Geyer Wine Co Seaside Cabernet Franc 2020
Geyer Wine Co Seaside Cabernet Franc 2020
Adelaide Hills, South Australia
There really is something seaside about this - an almost salty liquorice characteristic, as well as plenty of graphite, blueberries, a lick of redwood. The rosé proportion brings wonderful lift and elegance, delicate fruit notes, with fine grained tannins on the palate. Incredibly pure - a riveting red and lovely and unusual expression of Cabernet Franc.
Dave Geyer’s Seaside Cabernet Franc is sourced from a vineyard in the Sellick Hills just a few miles inland. Quite an unusual background to the vinification - with 50% of the fruit was fermented on skins for 10 days, whilst the other portion was fermented to be a rose (the colour just coming from the brief time in the press. Both parcels were aged in old oak barrels and blended. No added sulphur, fining or filtration.
Geyer Wine Co is headed up by Dave Geyer in the Barossa Valley. In an ode to heritage, but with eyes always looking to the future, Dave finds, revives and nurtures some of the neglected vineyards of the region to produce honest, hand crafted wines, often from unsung and unfashionable grape varieties. Keen to avoid all synthetic chemicals and to be in touch with the fruit at all stages from the vine to the bottle, he farms his vineyard parcels sustainably and regeneratively, even going as far as following a “no till” philosophy in as many sites as possible. These wines are unlikely to be like anything you will have ever tasted from the Barossa before - prepare to be astounded and pleasantly surprised!
