Benevolent Neglect Riesling 2019
Benevolent Neglect Riesling 2019
Mendocino, California
Probably the most in demand of all of our wines with some of the UK’s finest sommeliers in all corners of the country!
Sourced from a 45 year old site up near Ukiah, nearly 200m above sea level. Fermented long and cool in stainless steel, with the ferment stopped dry, retaining 15.5g/l R.S. It’s exceptionally well balanced by high acidity, and a wonderfully composed wine. This is the last ever vintage of this wine, the farmer ripped up the vines and replaced them with Chardonnay stock after the 2019 harvest.
Established by east coast boys, Ben Brenner and Matt Nagy, Benevolent Neglect got their break when winemaker Matt was fortunate to be offered some Syrah from the legendary Las Madres vineyard in 2013. Matt had previously produced eleven 100-point wines at Maybach, whilst Ben works at Rutherford Wine Co. As the name suggests, they work with as little intervention as possible, “to be the reliable translator from what was made in the vineyard from sun, water and soil, and gently let it become finest wine possible.
